Recently I shared with you a few pictures from my Son's wedding.
To not step on any toes, I told my Daughter-In-Law (DIL) that she needed to tell me if she wanted me to make something for the wedding.
One of the things that she asked me to make was a couple of chalkboards.
This was my problem...How would I get these chalkboards from Illinois to Kansas in our car without messing up the writing?
Here is how I solved this issue...Faux Chalkboards!
First, I did some research on the internet and found that I could purchase black foam core from Hobby Lobby or any craft store and it will look like a chalk board and write with chalk like a chalk board.
That made it easier to cut boards to fit the antique frames that I painted and made them very lightweight, however the problem still was how to keep the chalk writing from getting messed up in travel.
This is where my awesome Silhouette Cutting Machine comes in. I used heavy cardstock and cut out what I needed the chalkboards to say...this way I didn't have to free hand the look of the chalkboards.
Then I just traced the template with a Chalk Marker also purchased at Hobby Lobby and it was permanent. (I did a post of how these pens will be permanent on homemade painted chalkboards but not manufactured chalkboards HERE)
Here is the chalkboard on the Guest Book table...
A friend told me that I missed a needed extra 'o' in the first 'to late' so I just squeezed in another 'o' after it was done but thankfully before the wedding.
These made it all the way on the 7 hour trip with the car loaded down and intact.
IDEA: These are permanent and would work for any saying that you may like to display with a chalkboard look. With the foam core being so cheap, you could even make several with different saying for different seasons or holidays and just pop them out of the frame and a new one in!
