Table...Is It Too Far Gone?

That's what I asked myself when I first laid eyes on this table.





It's one of those cool old tall oval six leg tables that I am so in love with.





But, was it too far gone for a second life?

As shown in my Diamonds In The Rough! post, week 18.

This one was so damaged, broken, abused, uncared for, and just plain almost a gonner! Not only was most of the top veneer off, but the first layer of wood under that as well. Because of my love for these lost souls, I decided to take a chance. The lady started off asking $20. No way, not in this condition. However, for $5 I thought I would give it a try? The lady sold her to me for the $5 offer.

Thanks to wood glue and clamps, wood putty and Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and Wax she was salvageable. Here I used the Paris Grey which is more like a Blue-Grey to me. Old White was used for the edges. I used a very old German Hymnal for the top.  She is a beauty now...and I just can't let her go, not just yet.

And she is perfect for my other guest bedroom since I have the ceiling painted a soft blue, blue-grey bedding and some blue and yellow accents.

 

 

NOTE: Lots of people want to know what I put on top to protect the graphics. After decoupaging the pages on top, I give it two good coats of Polycrylic (a water based non-yellowing sealer). This will protect it well. Make sure each coat is completely dry before applying the next.
